Sun Entertainment co-invested in a French-Japanese film, UMAMI, which is directed by Slony Sow, staring Gérard Depardieu, Pierre Richard, Road Paradot and Cristine Scott Thomas. Slony is currently shooting UMAMI in France following a brief shutdown. Forty years after being reunited for the first time on screen in the cult comedy La Chèvre, Gérard Depardieu and Pierre Richard find themselves in UMAMI.
Storyline: The French restaurant “Monsieur Quelqu’un” is located in the historic center of the city of Saumur, and it is here that France’s leading chef GABRIEL CARVIN (70) celebrates the arrival of his third star. On the evening of this same day his wife LOUISE (60) finally leaves him for the bed of her lover, ROBERT (55), the gastronomic critic to whom Gabriel owes his stars. This brutal separation triggers a family crisis that severs his relationship with his two sons: JEAN (40), the sous-chef of the restaurant who attempts in vain to walk in his father’s footsteps in the kitchen, and his younger son, NINO (18), an idealistic millennial who rejects all consumerism and seeks above all love and truth. For Gabriel this overflow of resentment strikes him in the heart, in the form of a myocardial infarction. A tragedy for this hyperactive man who must now recover far from his pans, Gabriel, a man who has lived his life without ever really worrying about others now finds himself dependent on them …
